Growth Form: Trees and shrubs

Notes: In the Guiana Shield, Rhizophora mangle often co-occurs with two other closely related species, Rhizophora harrisonii and Rhizophora racemosa. While botanists distinguish them by their inflorescence (branching patterns of the flowers), they are almost universally grouped under the same vernacular names (Red Mangrove, Mangro, or Palétuvier rouge) by local communities due to their shared stilt-root morphology and high tannin content.
