Notes: Abarema jupunba (Willd.) Britton & Killip (synonym Pithecellobium jupunba, and recently placed by some taxonomists into the genus Jupunba as Jupunba trapezifolia) is a prominent understory-to-canopy tree belonging to the legume family (Fabaceae, subfamily Mimosoideae). Widely distributed across the wet tropical forests of the Guiana Shield, the Amazon basin, and parts of the Caribbean, its common names strongly reflect the distinctive saponin content in its bark and its bipinnate, fern-like foliage.
